While it is a great tv, both performance wise and ascetically, it promises what it cannot deliver.

I have tried to get a 1080 Resolution out of a brand new iMac, a new Mac Mini, and a high end Gateway PC. All defaulted to 1360 x 768 resolution and refused to go higher.

How can you promise full HD but not allow the resolution?

I am wholeheartedly confused.

I currently live in Germany and move a lot to different parts of the world. I had a 34″ Trinitron 1080i TV which was very nice for the 4 years I had it but I felt the need to upgrade. I did a lot of research looking into TV’s as I had to be sure this would do everything that new HDTV’s did but could also support PAL signals and dual voltage areas as I was not guaranteed to be in the States anytime soon. This beautiful televison did the trick for me.

I currently am running a PS3 for my Blu-ray Player (I will upgrade this early this coming year as I want to bitstream my audio) a Sony STRDG-820 7.1 Receiver (with all speakers) and this TV. I love it as I get a great picture and very good sound. Personally bitstream audio is the way to go as I am a huge fan of DTS. I recommend this TV to anyone in my situation but it also fits the bill if you live in a little town in Montana with no intention of going anywhere.

Be very careful. I purchased both 46″ and 40″ XBR4. Great picture but chip sets in each TV have had to be replaced. First chip set was within one year warranty. Second chip set was one month out of warranty and Sony refused to honor warranty until multiple communications from dealer and from authorized repair facility at which point (after 15 phone calls and two months) they finally agreed to pay for $400 of a $600 repair. Problems revolved around HDMI connections (which we originally thought was a handshake issue) Great product when it works, but dreadful customer service, suggesting buyer beware or at very least consider extended warranty.

We purchased this television one year ago today. It has not worked for two months. We have spent endless hours with the Customer Service Dept on the phone. The parts (computer & panel) just went out on it for no reason. They do not have the parts to fix the television. They offered us a refurbished TV (someone elses problem TV) which we declined. If you take the refurbished TV, our warranty and extended warranty are null and void. We wanted ours fixed. Customer Service (India I suppose) lied numerous times regarding the delivery date of the parts. We went from “the Authorized Dealer will receive the part in 2 days” to “it is backordered until the end of February”. They offered us a brand new xbr6 television replacement for an additional $300.00. They said it would be here within two weeks. No sight of that. Sony Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with, a bunch of liars. If you get lucky and get a TV with no problems, then you are good. I advise against buying any Sony products. I know I won’t.

I picked this TV because it has great features and is reasonably priced. It’s near the mid-point of the BRAVIA line, and has many of the important features of the XBR series TV’s, but at a more reasonable price. The 120mhz Motion Flow technology was a big selling point.

This unit is identical to the Bravia W4100 series, except the lower portion is BLACK instead of silver.

I bought it from J&R as they are one of the few retailers who carry this model… HIGHLY recommend it. And totally worth the price!

I purchased the Bravia 46 in 2007. It only took 6 months before it started having a problem. Now it takes 5 hours to warm up, stays on for 5 hours and then goes back to Red and Black vertical lines. If you don’t have a warranty, it will cost you at least a thousand dollars to have the screen replaced, because that’s what it takes to repair it. If your lucky, you may get Sony to pay the cost, but not the labor, Again IF your lucky.

If you value your money look into another set.

Consumer Reports magazine directed me to this TV and said Amazon had the best price for it. After much research I found they were right. Although delivery was a little sketchy (didn’t have a set time and date so someone could be home) It worked out well after I found a note on my door where they tried to deliver and couldn’t. I just called the carrier and they brought it right back the same day. I’m so greatful they just didn’t leave it on the front porch. TV works great, no hassles, great service, no high pressure sales tactics. I will be dealing with Amazon again for some future purchaces. Thanks for a good shopping experience.

This is our first LCD TV. It has great resolution and the HD is very impressive. It has served us well with many hours of viewing and Wii entertainment fun. We purchased this TV on the Memorial Day weekend of 2009. On Sunday morning September 27, 2009, my son turned on the TV to watch Sid the Science Kid but the picture and sound never appeared.

Sony customer support scheduled a pickup after an unsuccessful diagnostic walk through. It’s been almost a month since the TV was taken by the Sony service center representative. Bottom line, we are not sure what to expect from a four month old TV that’s been in the shop for almost a month.

I have purchased my 46″ Bravia KDL-46S4100 about 16 months ago.Just after manufacturer warranty expired, the LCD panel started to get a shaky black cloud in the center of the screen and then horizontal stripes distorting the image. I have to wait more than 30 minutes for the picture to clear off. Other than this problem the picture is crisp, very good colors, easy to use controls, no general complains.

The authorized repair man came over to my house and cost estimation for the repair was over $1800, more than I have paid for the new tv set. I had to turn down the repair offer, now I need to scrap the tv and get a new one, which definitely will not be Sony again. They lost me as a customer. Recommend buying extended warranty for Sony products.

I’m well aware that this Bravia model is their lower end one and used more as a discount choice. I know it’s not going to have the newest technology or the fastest speeds. But I do expect some form of quality when factoring in the price and the Sony name that I’ve always felt stood for a quality product.

The problem I have is some massive backlight bleeding. Even turned to its minimum I get the splotches in the corners and near the middle when the screen is dark. Now I expect this kind of stuff from a no-name company being sold at a huge discount at Wal-Mart. But Sony has built a reputation as a major brand and I don’t expect these kind of glaring issues. I’ll try and have it repaired with the 1-year warranty, but it seems like this is an issue on this model that is quite common.

The TV functions and and it’s a good picture for the price (when not dark). But the backlight issue is bad and just something I don’t expect at this price tag. One positive is that the speakers that come with this model are exceptional and the best I’ve ever had from a television.

I bought this SONY Bravia 1080p LCD 46 inch HD TV, model KDL-46S4100 on a Wednesday from the Home Theater Store for under $1,200 with free shipping. I received the TV the following week on a Friday from FedEx. The FedEx driver even helped me carry the TV downstairs to the family room. Like the other reviewer stated, it was a snap to install and took minutes to set up. The menu asks that you wait 50 minutes until all the analog and high definition channels are tuned in. So I did and the navigation of the SONY remote was great. Easy to find your channels, especially the HD ones. The picture in HD is unsurpassed. I have not seen a better high def picture in any other TV. Although everthing on this LCD TV is simple to use there is a ton of stuff programmed into the set. It even tells you with a short menu on top of the screen when you change channels what resolution the channel is broadcasting. If it is in 1080i with a wide screen 16:9 ratio then it tells you. Some of the HD channels are only broadcasting in 780 and the analog ones in 480. So you know why the picture is clearer and crisper than others. I can’t wait til they all go high definition in June. Some folks complained about ordering from the Home Theater Store but I was very pleased with them. They emailed once the item shipped and it arrived just as predicted. Shipment was fast and the box was not damaged in any way. I highly recommend this TV and had no problems from the Home Theater Store. Now I know why they are always comparing other TV’s to SONY.
